Hunger Strike Outside the White House

While in Washington, D.C. this past week, I stumbled upon several Uyghur activists across the street from the White House. Four of the demonstrators had begun a hunger strike two days earlier. New Jersey Congressman Christopher Smith was the featured speaker. Although the gathering was small, it was one of the more emotional demonstrations I have attended. Here are my thoughts and images.

Illinois State Fair

I spent two days at the 2022 Illinois State Fair last week, attending Governor’s Day and Republican’s Day, as well as enjoying the celebration of the Illinois’ agricultural industry, the Midway, the harness horse races, the assorted exhibits, and even some of the food, including the ice cream. Here are my thoughts and the images I captured.

Abortion in Indiana

This past Thursday, I headed to Indianapolis for the protests that would inevitably arise as the Indiana Legislature considered a ban on abortion. The protests were not as large as I had expected. Nevertheless, I had an opportunity to further think about what it means to protest, including the paradox that abortion-rights activists now face. Here are my thoughts and images from my two days in Indianapolis

NYC Gaze

I recently spent five days in New York City, Brooklyn, and Queens. I visited Wave Hill in Riverdale, Little Italy for the San Gennarro Festival, Chinatown, the Brooklyn Bridge Greenway, Pier 3, Estuary Brooklyn, Long Island City, Brooklyn Heights, and Williamsburg. Here is my commentary and the images I captured.
