Halloween rolled around this week. I was in New York City for the 49th Annual Greenwich Village Halloween Parade. Wow, what an event, so many colorfully attired ghouls, zombies, cartoon characters, and marching bands heading up Sixth Avenue. Here are my thoughts about and images from that scary night.
I was crazy enough to fly to Houston for the NRA’s Annual Convention and the protests that would surely materialize. It was a fascinating experience on many levels. Here are my thoughts and images.

I couldn't resist a snapshot of Sandro Botticielli's The Calumny of Appelles in the Uffizi. It is a painting for our time. On the right side of the painting sits King Midas on his thrown. He is painted with jackass ears. Two women flank him. One is Ignorance and the other is Suspicion. Midas' outstretched hand points to Slander.

The church that is one block south of Trump Tower is offering sermons on the Apocalypse during the United Nations General Assembly week. Seems appropriate, given that Trump is residence at Trump Tower.
We had talked about traveling to Portugal for at least 15 years, often as possible winter destination. Like everyone else, we always seemed to go elsewhere--Paris, London, Rome, Vienna, Prague, Istanbul, Madrid, and Moscow, among others. I can't say that was a mistake--each is a worthwhile destination--but so is Portugal.
