This afternoon, I attended a one-man demonstration at Buckingham Fountain that brought out at least 100 Chicago Police officers, which reveals just how seriously the city is taking the potential for disruptions and chaos into account. Although comical, the response was highly revealing. Here are my thoughts about and images from the demonstration, as well as my walk up and down Michigan Avenue.
September 16, 2023 marks the first anniversary of Mahsa Amini’s death while she was held in the custody of Iranian authorities. Chicago’s Iranian community held a rally today at Buckingham Fountain to honor Amini and others who have died while in Iranian custody or during the ensuing protests. Here are my thoughts about and images from the demonstration.

This photograph is either a two or four-minute exposure at F32 and ISO 100. I was using the iPad wireless app to trigger the shutter, and the camera appears to have recorded the shutter speed shown on the dial rather than the one I inputed into the application. My camera was fitted with a 10-stop neutral density filter, which explains the silky water and fuzzy clouds.
