Apple

Earlier this year, Apple announced that it was moving its Chicago flagship store to Pioneer Court, which is an underground space that runs along the Chicago River, just east of Michigan Avenue's Dusable  Bridge.  I once attended a wedding in Pioneer Court, but have never had reason to return.  Indeed, I don't think there has been much to return to.

Apparently, there will be a glass cube at street level, with the store located underneath the Equitable Building's plaza.  At an estimated cost of $62 million, this should be quite the store.  As many have already observed, that is a lot of iPhone sales.

I couldn't resist this early morning photograph.  It is so peaceful, which just goes to show how photographs can deceive.  I captured this on the morning that the City of Chicago honored the world champion Chicago Cubs with a parade that police claim attracted five million people.  Even at half that amount, there were a lot of people on the streets.  At the time this photograph was captured, it was still early, but the empty space behind the barricades lining Michigan Avenue was rapidly disappearing.

I had noticed the orange crane dozens of times over the last several months.  When there was light, it always glowed.  Today it framed the recently renovated London House so nicely, with the morning light adding warmth to the otherwise gray stone facade of that famed Chicago landmark.

I used a 90mm Summicron lens on my Leica M to capture this photograph.  It took about ten attempts, with me backing up several yards after shot.  I was shooting at a 45 degree angle due to the plywood wall erected around the construction site.
