I hate this statue.  If you live in Chicago, you've probably seen it dozens of times.  It is located in the Plaza of the Americas, which is adjacent to the Wrigley Building on Michigan Avenue.  The subject is Benito Juarez, who was the President of Mexico from 1858 to 1872.  He is viewed as the architect of modern Mexico.  

Tonight, hiking up the stairs just west of this pocket park, I noticed Juarez's hands for the first time.  It might have been the light from the setting sun that changed my view of this rather bulky and dark statue.  What hands.  Credit goes to the sculptor, Julian Martinez.  His 5-ton creation was dedicated in February 1999.  It was a gift from Mexico to the City of Chicago.  

It is probably fitting that the statue is in close proximity to Trump Tower.
