60+ degrees isn't exactly cold in Chicago, particularly next to Lake Michigan, but for the prior to days it was 93+ degrees, so today it felt like the Hawk had blown into town. Chilled. Yet, Day 3 of the Chicago Blues Festival brought many warm pleasures. I stopped in to catch the day's opening acts, and then I needed to move on. Glad I made the time.
First up was Charlie Love. Basic, but excellent blues. Charlie called one Steven up from the audience. This Chicago teen had his chops down, performing three or four numbers with a cracker jack band. Steven held his own. And he had that red and orange shirt thing going on . That made things a little tough on photographers given the backlighting, but it all worked out in the end.
Then it was over to the Pepsi Front Porch Stage for Melody Angel, who performed with a bassist and a drummer. Angel has a powerful voice and a commanding stage presence. Stan Lee is a fan.
And then it was off for the day. In retrospect, I wish I had hung around for John Primer and Lurrie Bell. Perennial festival favorites, both hopefully will be back again next year.
